Dangling like a string of pearls below the Indian subcontinent, the Maldives has always been the picture perfect fantasy of tropical island holidays. With only lush islands in the horizon for hundreds of miles, the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean is a paradise for water lovers. What sets the Maldives apart from other destinations is the teeming abundance of marine life. Due to the strict sustainable fishing policies, the numbers of sharks, turtles, mantas and a myriad of other species are simply amazing! The location of Maafushi is within easy reach of some of the most legendary dive sites where all kinds of amazing sea creatures gives the impression of swimming around in a perfect aquarium. It is rather amazing really. Maafushi boasts some spectacular dive sites, from easy beginner sites to ripping current dives, manta cleaning stations and channels where large schools of fish, rays and a great number of sharks congregate.
On land, Maafushi is by far the most vibrant local island in the Maldives. You have a GREAT bikini beach with powder soft white sand & several bar boats anchored just off the island. Maafushi also offers great excursions and day trips where you can snorkel with the nurse sharks, have a barbecue on perfect sandbanks in the ocean, see wild dolphins in the dolphin lagoon (usually) or go to one of the fancy resort island for the day and go crazy in the buffet, bar and swimmingpools.
Maafushi is an island known for diving and watersports, within 30 minutes of the capital Male. A 30 minute speedboat ride takes you away from the city hustle down into relaxed South Male atoll. Staying on a local inhabited island provides a very different, very REAL Maldivian experience, where the locals are eager to welcome explorers, the fishing boats line the harbours, and the slow pace of island life calms the senses. At Maafushi there are bar boats anchored where a beer or three can be enjoyed offshore to get past the law of no alcohol on local islands.
The daily dives of the dive center are done from a most comfortable dive
boat, which is highly professionally run by an international dive crew. Dive sites are easily within reach
with of a 10 to 45 minute boat ride. The boat goes out 2 times a day, to
do 1 or 2 dives. Your dives will be scheduled depending on your level
of diving, and the dive sites of the day.
The dive sites in the Maldives can be classified into 3 categories. Outside reefs, Reef passes and Thilas. Maafushi also have a nice shipwreck within 15 minutes of the dive center. The daily dive sites will be chosen according to the environment, the weather and the level of divers.
