Thousands of travelers migrate to Utila island each year to do their initial course or continue their dive education to a higher level or even one of the PADI Pro-courses. You can't help notice that special atmosphere of concentrated diving as soon as you touch land - Everybody talks diving! Being around so many divers have created the perfect learning environment and will inspire you in your own diving career. Together with your instructor and all the enthusiastic divers in the dynamic dive center, you will get an unforgettable first experience in the world of diving.

Things tend to move at a more relaxed pace in the Bay Islands and in particular on Utila. Dive boats are rarely crowded and dive sites are strictly limited to one dive boat per buoy. You will never experience the feeling that there are more divers than fishes! Thereefs are packed with life and the corals are in pristine condition. It is not uncommon for divers to play with manta rays, swim with dolphins and gasp with wonder as the biggest fish in the sea, the incredible whale shark, goes by.

Utila has only one main road lined with gingerbread houses in lively pastel colors. The village looks like it came from 1950. Dotted out between the old-school Caribbean looking houses and down the backstreets you will find bars buzzing with life. Utila is known as the divers' island, but it is also famous for its nightlife!
The PADI Open Water Course is performance based. That means you have to understand and pass the theory and perform the in-water skills correctly and with ease. Therefore, the itinerary can vary slightly from course to course. The course will take 3 to 4 days depending on the students enrolled.

DIVE PACKAGE:
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the most popular diving certificate worldwide. After completing this 3-4 day course you are certified to dive to 18 m independently with a buddy. The course consists of five modules of learning. You study via self-study workbook and complete a knowledge review. The instructor reviews everything with you to ensure that everything are confidently understood. The practical learning consists of pool sessions and 4 open water dives. The final stage of the PADI Open Water course is an exam, which is a multiple choice exam covering all that you have learnt. The course generally takes 3 to 4 days, with the theoretical, the pool and the open water part successfully passed.

Please allow a minimum of 24 hours, after your last dive, before flying.
(some countries will allow you to fly after 18 hours on land).

Local transport

The easiest way to reach Utila is to get yourself to La Ceiba by plane. Then catch the ferry “MV Utila Princess” leaving twice a day from the port of La Ceiba on Mainland Honduras. Connecting flights to La Ceiba is possible from San Pedro Sula or the capital Tegucigalpa. If you want to make it really easy and convenient, you can fly directly to Utila from La Ceiba - this might cost you a little extra, but it can be cheaper than staying a night in La Ceiba. If you do need to spend a night in La Ceiba, the hotel “Rainbow Village” found just around the corner from the airport is very friendly and safe. The hotel and transfer should be booked in advance.
